Actor Kerry Washington shared that playing the lead character of Olivia Pope in the American TV series, Scandal, has had a powerful influence on her personally, especially when it comes to motherhood. The 39-year-old — who recently had a daughter Isabelle with spouse Nnamdi Asomugha — said, “Even though Olivia Pope has obviously made the decision that she is not a mom, playing her made me feel like I could be one,” reported Indian Express. “Because she knows there’s always another way — there’s always a way to fix it. There’s always a way to solve it and win. I feel like playing Olivia made me feel like I can do it… I will figure out how to juggle it all.”

Beyond Scandal, the show’s creator and Washington’s close friend Shonda Rhimes has inspired her with an almighty female power as well. “I am on one show and I have one kid, and Shonda has three shows and three kids,” added Washington. The actor went on to heap praise on the way in which Rhimes is able to balance her personal and professional lives so beautifully. “She’s been such an amazing resource, as a mom and as a working mom.”

Washington shared her husband even listens to the audiobook version of Rhimes’ self-help book, Year of Yes quite often. “We gifted the book to a bunch of people for Christmas because I feel like it’s a little bit of required reading,” said Washington.
