ISLAMABAD:
A parliamentary panel on Thursday called for addressing the issues of overseas Pakistanis within the country and abroad on a priority basis. The Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Development formed a committee which will look into educational opportunities, exploitation by employers and illegal occupation of land and property at home among other issues expatriates face. The new committee, which is to be headed by Senator Abdul Qayyum, is to present its report within a stipulated period of 90 days. Members were informed that nearly 8.6 million Pakistanis are residing in different countries, which is nearly 4.6 per cent of the total population. A majority of them are based in Europe, North America and United Arab Emirates.
