Subsidy claims: Food ministry pays Rs8.264b

The package provides a direct benefit of Rs147 billion to small farmers across the country

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of National Food Security and Research has paid Rs8.264 billion to phosphatic fertiliser manufacturers and commercial importers for around 28 subsidy claims of October and November, 2015. The ministry, which was given a task of distribution of subsidy of Rs20 billion on phosphatic fertilizers under the Kisan Package, has paid such claims after following the procedure mentioned in the notification. Officials on Thursday said the Prime Minister announced a Kisan Package on September 15, 2015 for farmers with direct cash assistance to rice and cotton growers, subsidy on fertilisers and electricity and tax relief on import of agriculture machinery. The package provides a direct benefit of Rs147 billion to small farmers across the country.
