KARACHI:

In response to remarks made by Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (Kati) President Zahid Saeed said that calls to close down the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) are baseless and uncalled for.

A press release issued on Thursday said that it was unjust to blame a single institution for the decline in the country’s exports.

“There are various hurdles in the way of exports, among which are energy crisis, low growth in the world markets and other international aspects, which should not be ruled out,” stated the Kati chief. Citing India and China, the release stated that they too have been facing difficulties in increasing exports.

Saeed, who represents one of Karachi’s largest industrial zones, said, “TDAP Chief Executive Officer S M Muneer enjoys the support of the business community because he has reduced corruption in the organisation.”

TDAP has been surrounded by controversies and many top officials faced probes on financial irregularities.
