PESHAWAR:

A two-day exhibition titled ‘Women as Change Agent’ started at PUTA Hall in University of Peshawar on Wednesday. Handicrafts made by women from various districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas were displayed for sale.

The traditional and vocational skill exhibition organised in collaboration with the US Embassy of Pakistan, aimed to promote women entrepreneurs in K-P and Fata.

Direct liaison

The organiser of the event, Aneesa Shah, told The Express Tribune, “I arranged this exhibition with the aim to remove the third party between entrepreneurs and buyers.” She added, “I want the two parties to face each other without getting help from any third party.”

Shah believed interference by a third individual does not allow women entrepreneurs to earn the amount they deserve.

An excited participant, Shumaila, a resident of Mansehra, told The Express Tribune, “These exhibitions really help us with our sales since there is no intermediary between us and the buyer hindering the process or reducing our revenue.” She said the platform was extremely useful because sellers like herself could establish contacts and have increased access to various markets.

A creative affair

Almost 20 stalls were set up to display cultural products, including embroidered clothes, handmade jewellery, purses, wall hangings and other items. They were made by women from Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Charsadda, Mansehra and Kurram, Mohmand and Khyber agencies.

Buyers and visitors had the opportunity to buy a wide variety of innovative and custom-made goods at a single platform. Stalls of clutches and mobile covers were swarmed with buyers, particularly students from the varsity.
