Anne Hathaway, Gary Marshall planning ‘Princess Diaries 3’
LOS ANGELES:
Fans of Meg Cabot’s acclaimed 2000 novel and its namesake film The Princess Diaries can rejoice! Hollywood beauty Anne Hathaway and director Garry Marshall – who brought the story to life back in 2001 – are planning to make a third installment of the successful franchise. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple of weeks ago,” Marshall was quoted as saying. “It looks like we both want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” he added.
The book follows the story of a young girl named Mia Thermopolis, whose life goes for a toss after she discovers that she is the heir to the throne of a fictional kingdom. The first film came out in 2001, followed by the sequel Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004.
There is still, however, a long wait before the third chapter can become a reality. “Anne is very pregnant right now,” said Marshall. “So we have to wait until she has the baby and then, I think, we are going to do it.” When asked if the film will include a role for the Royal Engagement star Chris Pine, the director did not reveal much. “Maybe,” he hinted. “Chris it quite big now, you know.”
Film review: The Intern - The Intern works
The Princess Diaries franchise also stars legendary British singer and actor Julie Andrews as Mia’s grandmother Queen Clarisse and Hector Elizondo as Mia’s bodyguard Joe.
