Court order: SSP to probe claims of detention, cash theft

Jackson SHO denies petitioner's allegations.

KARACHI:
A petitioner addressed the Sindh High Court Chief Justice in his complaint about the Jackson police allegedly taking away his grandsons, Muhsin Ali and Hussain Ali, after raiding his house. The police also robbed him of all the cash available and also demanded Rs200,000 if he wanted his grandsons released.

During the petitioner’s hearing on Thursday, the Jackson SHO present in court denied the illegal detention of the petitioner’s two grandsons as well as the theft and bribery claims.

The SHO maintained that since he assumed charge of the Jackson police station, he initiated a campaign against drug peddlers. One of the sons of the petitioner is an infamous narcotics supplier and several cases are pending against him, he argued. He added that the petition was filed with mala fide intent of pressuring the SHO and his subordinates.

Superintendent of Police Niaz Khosa was directed on Thursday by a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) to inquire into allegation of illegal detention of two grandsons of a petitioner, theft of cash and receipt of graft by Jackson police.

Meanwhile, the bench was told by the petitioner that now his grandsons have been released.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, ordered SSP Niaz Khosa to investigate the petitioner and police officials on January 22 at his office and submit a report to the court on January 28, the next date of hearing.
