DERA GHAZI KHAN/SHEIKHUPURA:
A three-day polio vaccination campaign kicked off in Sheikhupura and Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday.

Dera Ghazi Khan DCO Nadeem Ur Rehman inaugurated the campaign at the DHQ hospital trauma centre. “We need to make sure not a single child under the age of five years remains unvaccinated…it is the national obligation of every citizen to ensure that the immunisation campaign is successful.”

He stressed the need for polio teams to develop a cogent argument when trying to convince parents who refuse to get their children vaccinated. “The future of Pakistan cannot be held back by polio…it is our responsibility to ensure that it is eradicated entirely.”

Health EDO Munawar Abbas said 580,677 children will be vaccinated during the campaign in Dera Ghazi Khan. They will also be given a dose of vitamin A supplement. He said there were 1,378 teams working in the campaign – 1,241 of those were mobile teams, 79 were deputed at fixed points, and 58 of them were transport teams. He said medical officers in 74 union councils will monitor the campaign alongside 255 area in-charge officials.

Sheikhupura Health EDO Dr Iftikhar Ahmad inaugurated the polio inoculation campaign in Sheikhupura. He said all available resources would be used to stave off the paralysing disease. The management has ensured strict security measures for polio teams, he said.

“Parents must act like responsible citizens and get their children vaccinated without delay,” he said.  More than 596,400 children will be vaccinated during the campaign in Sheikhupura district.

He said the campaign will cover children in 113 union councils. The Health Department has constituted 1,043 mobile teams, 114 teams deputed at fixed points and 46 polio camps in the district. They will be monitored by 228 area in-charge officials, he said.
