Kohli popular with teammates but Dhoni my favourite, says Pakistan women's captain
Sana Mir also praised Sri Lankan veterans Jayawardene and Sangakkara for being wonderful ambassadors of the game
Pakistan skipper Sana Mir revealed that even though Virat Kohli is popular among her teammates, her personal favourite is Indian skipper MS Dhoni.
The women’s team captain who will step down after the World T20 praised Dhoni’s performance as Indian skipper. “If I just talk about my players, I think Virat Kohli is the favourite cricketer. Personally, Dhoni is my favourite player. He has handled himself well on and off the field. He has transformed a team of juniors into an effective unit," said Mir.
Pakistan green-lights World T20 appearance
Mir has decided to relinquish captaincy post World T20 and wants to personally supervise a smooth transition by continuing on as a team member before retiring from the game.
The skipper said that it was an honour captaining the national side and she would support her successor in order for her to settle in. “We have been grooming my successor for the past three or four years. Captaining Pakistan was an honour. I think this is the right time for the next captain to take over as we are two years away from the next World T20 and Asian Games,” she said. “This would be the best time for the new captain to come in and settle down," she added.
World T20 safety concerns
Mir further praised Sri Lankan veterans Jayawardene and Sangakkara and claimed that her decision to stay on as a player after the World T20 is inspired from them. “After retirement, I will continue as a player. I will be in the team as a player until the new captain settles down. Jayawardene and Sangakkara have shown this and they have been wonderful ambassadors of the game," she said.
