A controversial Instagram account listing attractive male refugees has caused backlash on social media.

The account is dedicated to ‘handsome men on their journey to Europe'. "Their countries might be falling apart but their sex appeal still goes strong," the description reads.

Some of the captions to the photos of migrant men read "pretty in pink", "waiting handsomely for a better life", "migrant Wolverine" and "quite the seductive stare".

The pictures have triggered an angry reaction by some Instagram users, who termed the account “disgusting” and called for it to be deleted.

'This whole account is a mess - deliberate objectification and harmfully reductive commentary on people whose lives hang in the balance," one Instagram user commented.

However, there are some who have no issues with the account and are actually commenting on the photos. “He’s gorgeous. Am I going to Hell for thinking that?” wrote one user. “Can’t beat sex appeal,” wrote another.

In an interview to Cut, the creator of the account said, “I created this account after watching a video from the refugees and migrants who were stuck behind the border fence in Idomeni”.

Afghans feel forgotten in Europe's migrant crisis

“One of the people who was pleading for the borders to open caught my eye and I found myself recounting how many other times I pondered about some of these people’s fates. I got distracted by some of the good-looking men in the process,” he added.

The account owner thinks the photos help bring the realities a bit closer. “It’s a bit surreal to ‘objectify’ people who are fleeing war and broken countries… It is hard to overlook these people if you aren’t seeing them through their trek in Europe and it’s easy to dismiss them because the reality is far removed from you. These photos bring the realities a bit closer...It helps to cope with the situation.”

Grace | 8 years ago | Reply @Bunny Rabbit: Asylum seekers are sleeping in the cold after paying human smugglers thousands of euros to get to Europe illegally. Who in their right mind cares what they look like? Will you take pictures of even poorer and more starving Africans and Rohingyas in Burma who don't have the money to pay human smugglers to get into Europe illegally?
Bunny Rabbit | 8 years ago | Reply What use is physical beauty if it does not fill the stomach . Are they getting modelling assignments due to this beauty ? what are the so called 'perks' enjoyed by pretty men ? Its well known that Eurasians are eye catching but how does it solve any problem ?
