LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday gave the provincial government and other respondents till April 7 to submit a  report and parawaise comments on a petition challenging the appointment of Najam Saeed as chairman of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Commission.

Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh was hearing a petition filed by Munir Ahmed. The petitioner submitted that Saeed was appointed chairman on January 1 under Rule 3 of the LDA Commission Rules, 2014.

He said Saeed was not eligible for the post at that time.

The petitioner said that the provincial government had later amended the rules through a notification on February 13. Under the amended rules, a person who had held an office not below BS-20 in the service of Pakistan and who had at least 20 years experience of working in public sector was eligible for the post.

He requested the court to set aside the appointment for being unlawful.
