Rifts in Haripur: Local govt official issues notices over fund distribution
Say not a single development scheme started in UCs
HARIPUR:
A bench of Peshawar High Court Abbottabad registry issued notices to Haripur nazim Adil Islam, deputy commissioner, local government secretary among others to appear on March 20 in a case of fund distribution.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Haripur President Sahibzada Hamid Shah who is also the opposition leader in Haripur district council said Chaudhry Muhammad Dad and two other PML-N district councillors filed a petition in the high court regarding opposition members being ignored in the distribution of funds and in the running of the house. This was considered against the LG law.
Alleged imbalance
The bench provided interim relief to the petitioners and issued notices to the officials to appear before the court with records of funds and distribution.
Shah told the bench over the last 10 months or so, the district nazim has been “dancing to the tune” of non-elected politicians of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and have “pushed the opposition to the wall”. He added the 15-member opposition was totally deprived of development funds while councillors of PTI were given heavy funding, unlawfully.
Injustice in the house
“The opposition members were never given the proper time to discuss issues of their electorate and standing committees were constituted against the spirit of the act of 2013,” Shah said.
He added under the act, the chairperson of standing committees was to be appointed with the approval of the house. But, Shah claimed, Islam and his “mentors” announced the names on their own.
Shah called the district nazim “powerless and unaware” of his role and responsibilities. “Since May 2015, the district council has not even launched a single development scheme in 45 union councils which speaks volume about the efficiency of the nazim.”
When approached for comments, Haripur district nazim Adil Islam and naib nazim Agha Shabbir were not available.
