Saving money: KMC administrator orders cuts in expenditure

Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) administrator Roshan Ali Shaikh has, through an order, imposed a ban on the purchase of luxury items by the KMC, such as LCD TVs, furniture and air-conditioners, to decrease expenditure, and has stated that cases for the relaxation of economy cuts on non-development budget would not be considered.  Chairing a meeting of the finance department on Friday, he stressed the need to decrease non-development expenditures so that the financial condition could be improved, said a statement. The administrator urged them to take measures to improve the overall financial condition of the organisation, with salary payments and pensions being given preference. All claims over Rs250,000 or older than six months shall be submitted to the administrator for approval before payment, according to the statement. It was also stated that funds saved due to the imposition of the 40 per cent economy cut should be surrendered.
