LAHORE: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) carried out an encroachment operation on Sunday in Model Town Katchery, pulling down illegal chambers built by lawyers for the second time.

The chambers had been built in the park in front of the Bukhshi Khana, Model Town.

The operation was carried out 20 days after the DCO had directed that a committee compromising senior lawyers be set up to settle the long-standing issue. Former Lahore Bar Association vice president Nausherwan Adil said that though a committee had been formed, the issue had not been resolved.

According to DSP Shahzada Saleem, who was made in charge of the operation by the DCO, the demolition was carried out after lawyers tried to construct permanent structures. DDO-R Cantt, Saleha Saeed, said that the city government had allowed around 20 lawyers to sit in the park without constructing permanent chambers. Saeed said that though the lawyers had protested, there wasn’t any violent confrontation.
