Khuban Omer Khan, Director of Farida Hasan, talks about her love for jewellery as a child and unlocks her vault to show us some of her favourite pieces
How/When did you get interested in jewellery?
It all started when my sister got married and I saw her adorned in my mother’s heirloom pieces. I was ten years old then, so obviously I fulfilled my craze for jewellery through costume pieces. Claire’s and Accessorize were my favourite shops on our trips abroad.
What are your favourite pieces of jewelry (precious or costume)?
My Saint Laurent and Paula Mendoza rings are my absolute favourite costume jewellery pieces because they are so wearable. My favourite piece of precious jewellery is a polki and tourmaline set that I wore on my wedding.
Where did you buy/get them from?
My grandmother bought it from India about 30 years ago for my mother, who passed it down to me.
Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why?
The chandelier earrings my mother got me on her 16th birthday. They have a magical feel to them.
Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favorite pieces?
It would have to be my wedding set which I set my heart on when my sister was getting married. I acquired it by being dramatic and telling my mother: “You’re giving all the good things to her and nothing is left for me.” To think I was ten years old back then is kind of embarrassing.
Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?
This beautiful emerald pendant I saw at a jewellery shop in India is on my wish list.
