Under discussion: 56.6mw of electricity to be provided to industrial estates

Minister for Elementary Education, Energy and Power Muhammad Atif Khan has asked energy department officials to ensure cheap and uninterrupted electricity to industrial zones in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.



He expressed these views while chairing a meeting on the provision of cheap electricity to industrial estates on Tuesday. The meeting was told the E&P department would have 56.6 megawatts of electricity by October 2016 which would be provided to the industrial estates. The action plan to utilise 100 mmcfd of gas for power generation to ease burden on national grid was also discussed.


It was decided the federal government would be asked for the early payment of arrears of Pehur hydropower project which amount to Rs974 million. The federal water and power ministry would also be reached for the purpose.

In his brief speech, Atif said poverty and unemployment were the basic issues faced by the province and cannot be resolved without industrialisation. He instructed the E&P department officers to devise a comprehensive plan to utilise natural resources like hydropower, hydro-carbon, oil and gas.
