NEW DELHI:
There really seems to be no end to Farhan Akhtar’s creativity. As an actor, filmmaker, writer, singer and musician, he has already won hearts across the world and although his latest film Wazir failed to draw much traction at the box office, Akhtar is back with a vengeance. He has come up with a brand new song entitled We Are All on the Good Side (WAAOTGS) in light of the International Women’s Day which falls on March 8.

According to Akhtar, the song talks about equality in totality. “It is about an equal world; seeing people beyond gender, colour of skin, cast, creed, economic definition and race,” he said whilst speaking with IANS. “The song talks about celebrating equality, as opposed to challenging it.” Akhtar has even roped in music director Kalyan Baruah and music innovations, publishing and talent development company Farout Media for the song.

“It’s inspired by something my younger daughter had done,” explained Akhtar. “She created a drawing which had this written, ‘We are all on the good side’. I was inspired by that because I found that, in its childlike way, a great way to look at the world.”

Of course, music is a great way to express one’s support and highlight important social roles and contributions of women. WAAOTGS therefore, also celebrates the spirit of being women and their achievement everywhere. The Dil Dhadakne Do star claims he cannot dedicate the song to just one person. It is meant for all those who are “part of the struggle” and Akhtar hopes everyone will see it that way. “Everyone is on the same side, in one team of wanting to live happily and peacefully with each other,” he said.
