Punjab will work with Turkish body to promote small units

Industries and Production Minister Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi has said the government is committed to curbing poverty and unemployment through the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Speaking to the president of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organisation (Kosgeb) of Turkey, Recep Bicer, the minister said Pakistan could boost its exports through the SMEs.
Bicer was leading a delegation which came on the invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Turkish ambassador also accompanied the delegates.
According to a statement, the Punjab government would work closely with Kosgeb in an effort to develop the SME sector with the help of Turkish experience.
It will provide knowledge, experience and technology and projects will be executed through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), which is the counterpart of Kosgeb.
Jatoi emphasised the need for bilateral cooperation and trade, saying Pakistan and Turkey had a huge potential for promoting the trade partnership.
Smeda CEO Alamgir Chaudhary also signed a memorandum of understanding with Kosgeb.
In his address, Bicer threw light on the role of Kosgeb in poverty alleviation and export promotion in Turkey. He also highlighted the organisation’s functioning and achievements.
Talking to media, the federal minister called the event a milestone in the friendship between Pakistan and Turkey. The delegation will stay in Lahore until March 10.
