PESHAWAR:
Nearly a month after Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission (EC) Director General Lieutenant General (retd) Hamid Khan resigned from his post, the provincial accountability body’s Director Investigation Officer Colonel (retd) Amjad has also tendered his resignation.

“The director investigation took the decision over continuous changes in the K-P Ehtesab Commission (Amendment) Act, 2014 and his disagreement with the provincial government,” Ehtesab Commission’s spokesperson Ahsan told The Express Tribune on Monday.

Amend, enforce, replay: K-P govt objects to changes in EC Ordinance

Amjad was appointed some 20 days ago on his post as Director Investigation Officer.

Last week, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan took to Twitter to object to the amendments made in the EC law through an ordinance by his own party. He tweeted he had asked for the K-P Cabinet to withdraw the amendments.

The PTI-led K-P government had amended the act through an ordinance which the K-P governor approved on February 9. The amendment reduces the powers of the director general of the commission and changes the accountability watchdog’s composition.

Changing the law: Ehtesab Commission DG quits in a huff over amendments

Although Hamid raised his concerns over the changes in the law in a letter to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan, the watchdog had posted a press release to its website welcoming the amendments.

The DG was not satisfied with the amendments and tendered his resignation to the chief minister on February 10 which was accepted.
