LAHORE:

The Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project will provide quality transport facilities to hundreds of thousands of citizens, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.

The chief minister was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers.

“Those criticising the project are no friends of the people. They are enemies of development and prosperity. The metro bus project faced similar criticism. However, it all changed when the project became a huge success. The same will happen when the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project is completed,” the chief minister said. He said that government would continue public welfare projects.

The chief minister said that public funds were being utilised transparently. “The metro bus project has been very successful. Hundreds of thousands of people travel by the buses daily. The Orange Line Metro Train project is another splendid gift of the government to the people,” he said.

The chief minister said the government was implementing the agenda of provision of modern, safe, and economical transport facilities to the people.

“Due to the unwise policies of the rulers of the province during the dictatorial era, the problems facing the people multiplied. They, instead of paying attention to resolving these problems, looted public funds. No development project was completed during that period. However, the PML-N government has brought the country back on the right track,” he said.

The chief minister said that energy projects were being completed expeditiously. “Poverty, ignorance and unemployment will be eliminated from the country,” he said.

Separately, Australian High Commissioner Margaret Anne Adamson met the CM on Sunday. Promotion of bilateral economic and social relations and cooperation in agriculture, livestock, skill development, education and other sectors was discussed at the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that there were deep-rooted friendly relations between Pakistan and Australia. “There is a need for taking measures for strengthening economic and trade ties between the two countries,” he said. The chief minister said that more delegations should be exchanged between Australia and Pakistan.

“A conducive atmosphere has been created in the Punjab for investment. There are vast investment opportunities in livestock and agriculture sectors,” he said.

The CM said that the government wanted to further strengthen relations with Australia in agriculture, livestock, skills development and education sectors.

“Reforms have been introduced in education and health sectors in the Punjab. Australian investors should benefit from the vast opportunities of investment in the province,” he said.

He said that exchange of business delegations between Pakistan and Australia would help increase bilateral economic cooperation. “The government wants to benefit from the experience and expertise of Australia in agriculture, livestock, dairy development and other sectors,” he said.

The Australian high commissioner appreciated the measures taken by the Punjab government for developing different sectors. “Australia will take steps for promotion of cooperation with Punjab government in various sectors,” he said.
