Khokhar revealed that the proposed institute would be established on the Sialkot-Daska road and development work on the project would start soon.
He said the federal government has already given Rs50 million for the institute that would be affiliated with Japan, while the remaining Rs75 million would be released shortly.
The objective behind the training institute is to produce trained workforce in the field of stitching, pattern designing, quality control, inspection and sewing machine mechanics for both males and females.
“The PRTTI would help exporters engage with the readymade garments industry to induct trained workforce for improving the productivity and quality of the product,” said Khokhar.
At present 50 industrial units produce martial arts uniforms, while 100 are engaged in producing tracksuits and sportswear in Sialkot that cater to domestic and international needs.
The PRGMEA chief coordinator suggested that the government should focus on setting up industrial villages and special economic zones in Sialkot to facilitate the business community.
He said it would not only generate employment but also help exporters increase their volume.
