The meeting was chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, and also included Federal Minister of Law Pervaiz Rashid, and Higher Education commission Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, said a press release.

The CJP urged that the process of redrafting the standardised, comprehensive service rules should be expedited and directed that the academy seek guidance from the Supreme Court in the matter. The board also discussed the establishment of the Federal University of Law and Judicial Administration.

“Our top most priority should be to impart quality judicial training to the judicial officers. FJA should produce quality judicial officers,” the CJP remarked.

He also apprised the board that a four-member committee was constituted to evaluate the prospects of a university and all the logistics related to it, while a three-member committee was also formed to explore avenues of funding for the Academy, including funding for the proposed university.

The participants also deliberated on the challenges facing the judicial officers and on the necessity of quality judicial education and training.

Law Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid assured the board that the government was committed to provide the academy with all the resources it needed to produce quality judicial officers.
