KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed on Friday Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Faryal Talpur, Ayaz Soomro and others to file comments on a petition seeking a probe into alleged misappropriation of the Prime Minister's Development Scheme funds meant for Larkana.

A division bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, directed the PPP leaders, the Larkana deputy commissioner and others to file comments by March 24.

A resident of Larkana, Bashir Ahmed, had taken the PPP lawmakers and others to court over an alleged misappropriation of development funds.

The petitioner said in 2008 the then prime minister had announced a scheme titled 'Development and Beautification of Larkana City' and funds worth Rs12 billion were allocated for it. He claimed that the funds were released but no work had been done in the city.

He alleged that a huge amount of public money had been misappropriated and plundered, therefore, the same may be investigated and those found responsible should be taken to task.

On Friday, the bench was informed that no comments had been filed by the respondent PPP leaders. It again ordered the respondents to file their comments by March 24.
