LG minister takes notice of depts not complying with organisation

PESHAWAR: Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Inayatullah Khan has asked Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) to devise key performance indicators for sustainability, stated a press release issued on Friday.

He said this while addressing a meeting in the city in which the performance of WSSP was reviewed.

According the press release, Inayatullah said the government wanted to improve WSSP’s performance and sustainability.



“WSSP should prepare a scheme for mechanical sweeping in the next annual development programme,” the press release quoted him as saying. “The government will extend all possible support.”

He said some departments had ignored Chief Minister Pervez Khattak’s directives.

“A meeting will be called with these departments to discuss the situation regarding WSSP,” the document cited Inayatullah as saying. “WSSP should include local government members in its board of directors as town and district council members will be providing funds to the organisation.”

During the meeting, WSSP officials gave a detailed presentation and informed Inayatullah about its performance spanning over a year and a half. New projects were also discussed. They said an effective complaint cell had been put in place.

“WSSP is using sophisticated technology to bring sanitary conditions, water supply and drainage systems at par with the developed world,” Naeem, an engineer, was quoted as saying.

He said WSSP had achieved all set targets before it deadlines. More than 98% complaints had been addressed and solid waste was being lifted every day.
