ISLAMABAD:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has penalised its 22 employees during the last three years for misuse of power, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

During a briefing regarding disciplinary cases, NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry highlighted the necessity of accountability within the NAB in line with the internal accountability mechanism (IAM). The chairman said that the NAB action against corrupt government functionaries will only be credible if wrongdoers within the ant-graft body were held accountable.

“A NAB officer should have impeccable integrity and service discipline as he holds others accountable. Disciplinary matters are important for efficiency and effective performance of a system, the NAB chairman said adding that NAB bureaus have taken stern action against its own officials by taking stock of complaints against them.

The NAB chairman was briefed that disciplinary proceedings were initiated against 83 officials during the last three years, of which 60 cases were disposed with 22 major and 34 minor penalties and four exonerations.

HAROON RASHID | 8 years ago | Reply Appreciate your role for justified governance. Multilateral agencies worldwide are concerned on NAB Chairman should consider the corruption on the land of Karachi Circular Railway project which is illegally/un-authorisedly grabbed by land mafia across the track to be laid, which is causing delay and in-tolerance from the Japanese FDI JICA. JICA and other Japanese bodies are waiting for the Government to vacate the land. So is the issue of Land Mafia in Co-Operative Housing Societies in Karachi where court orders for vacating the land are ignored. One classic example is the AEECHS Karachi case where land is illegally occupied. Appreciate if you probe this.
