IHC indefinitely adjourns Zardari reference case

The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday adjourned the plea filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the acquittal of former president Asif Ali Zardari in the Ursus tractors and ARY gold references from an accountability court.
An IHC Division Bench, comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Athar Minallah resumed hearing the appeals filed by NAB seeking nullification of the accountability court’s decision in favour of the former president Asif Ali Zardari.
Assets reference case against Zardari reopened in Rawalpindi court
During the course of the hearing, NAB prosecutor, Adnan Tahir, appraised the court that the bureau is collecting records and evidences against the former president and prayed for granting further time.
The court admitted NAB’s request and adjourned the matter for indefinite period.
On November 24, the Islamabad accountability court had exonerated Asif Zardari from the charges of using official position for pecuniary benefits in the corruption references.
Judge Mohammad Bashir had acquitted the former president on account of weak evidence.

Ursus tractors case pertains to the alleged misappropriation in purchase of 5,900 Polish and Russian tractors at a cost of Rs150, 000 each for a tractor Scheme launched by Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)’s previous government.
ARY reference relates to alleged illegal granting of licenses to ARY traders to import of silver to gold which inflicted to loss of nearly Rs18.2 million to the public exchequer.
