Man pardoned for killing mother, kills two sisters
He had accused them of having ‘loose’ morals
BAHAWALPUR/MULTAN/FAISALABAD:
Two sisters were shot dead for ‘honour’ allegedly by their brother in Sahiwal district on Tuesday night.
Police said Muhammad Asif, son of Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Chak RB-67/4, Noorshah, in Sahiwal district killed his sisters Surayya Bibi, 16, and Fauzia Bibi, 13, for ‘honour’. Police said Asif had fled after killing his sisters.
Three years ago, Asif had murdered his mother Sarwar Bibi. Police said he was arrested but was later released after his maternal aunt and sisters pardoned the crime.
Police said their father Muhammad Ashraf lived abroad. A murder case has been registered on a complaint filed by Noor Samad, an uncle of the deceased girls.
Samad said Asif had accused his sisters of having ‘loose’ morals and would often berate them for ‘bringing shame’ to the family. He said that the girls had wanted to get an education but Asif had forbidden them to go to school and had forced them to stay cloistered at home. On Tuesday at around midnight, Asif had shot them dead and fled.
Police said they were looking for Asif and were certain that they would soon zero in on him.
Woman killed for filing maintenance suit
A woman was shot dead allegedly by her former husband over litigation in a Chak Jhurma police precinct on Wednesday. Police said she had filed a maintenance suit.
A police spokesperson said Rehana Kausar had married Muneer Ahmad, a resident of Chak Jhumra, 10 years ago and had four children with him. They did not have a happy marriage and got a divorce last year.
Kausar had filed a petition in the family court requesting maintenance for herself and her children, all under 10 years of age. Ahmad had been furious with this move, police said.
One Wednesday, he barged into her house and shot her several times. Kausar was seriously injured and died on the spot. Ahmad fled. Police were called. They took her body to a mortuary for post-mortem examination. A special police team has been formed to trace out the whereabouts of the suspect. Police said he was at large but they were looking for him.

Police said Nazeera Bibi had married one of her first cousins five years ago. They had not gotten along and had obtained a divorce within a few months of being married.
She had later married Qamar, a resident of Kot Bakhshaya, Pakpattan, around six months ago. He, too, was a close relative. Police said Qamar would often taunt Nazeera Bibi about having been divorced previously. He would also insult her parents for how they had raised her. Police said people close to the family said she had become a source of embarrassment for the family.
On Wednesday, Nazeera Bibi’s brother Muhammad Hussain visited her house in Pakpattan and took her with him ostensibly to visit their elder sister. On the way there, Hussain had pulled out a gun and his friend Farooq had helped him pin her down. They had shot her in the head and fled.
Police said Nazeera Bibi had died on the spot. They took the body to a hospital for post-mortem examination and registered a case against Hussain and Farooq. Police said they were looking for them.
Women’s hockey team coach assaulted
The Bahawalpur Women Hockey Team coach was assaulted on Wednesday allegedly by a man who had been courting her. Her throat had been slit with a knife. Police said she was taken to Bahawal Victoria Hospital in critical condition. Police said Hina Khan, the district women hockey team coach, was getting into a rickshaw on Circular Road when Shahzad Makki, a man whose proposal she had rejected earlier, walked up to her and slit her throat with a knife. The rickshaw driver drove her to Bahawal Victoria Hospital where she was taken to the Operation Theatre. Doctors later said that they had operated on her and her condition was stable. She was being treated at the ENT Ward. Civil Lines police have registered a case against Makki. They said they had taken one of his friends, Zahid, into custody for questioning. Police said they were trying to locate Makki and had conducted several raids. Makki had sent a marriage proposal for Khan a few days ago but she had declined it, police said.
Child found murdered
A four-year-old girl was found dead in Mehmood Ganga near Harappa on Wednesday. Police said Meerab, 4, daughter of Muhammad Sajjad was visiting her uncle Ahmad Raza. Her father Sajjad went to pick her up on Wednesday but Raza said she had already left. Sajjad filed a kidnap case with the police and they started to look for Meerab. Police said they had found her body from Raza’s house.They registered a murder case against Raza and other members of his family including Ejaz, Shamim Bibi and Zahida Bibi. Police said they had arrested Raza and were interrogating him.
