MANSEHRA:
Mansehra district nazim Sardar Said Ghulam has asked the vice chancellor of Hazara University to prepare a feasibility report to establish a university campus in Darband.
Ghulam was speaking during his visit to HU’s Garden Campus where he had gone to see Hasnain 2013, a mustard crop invented by the varsity’s genetics department.
The district nazim asked HU VC Professor Dr Habib Ahmed to prepare a plan for a new campus of the university in Darband.
“[Darband] is a remote area,” he said. “Residents need an educational facility so they have access to higher education. This is important for socio-economic changes.”
According to Ghulam, the federal government has planned a large number of mega projects for secondary and higher-level education, including a university for women. He added practical work on these projects is expected to start by the end of March. The district nazim said the provincial government was liaising with the federal government on these projects.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC said the administration of HU would extend technical support to the district government to open campuses in Oghi and Darband. He believed the decision to establish such campuses will produce social and economic development in the area.
Ahmed shared HU’s educational programmes and future plans with the district nazim. He said HU has not only enabled students of Hazara to gain easy and affordable access to higher education in Hazara, but has also proved instrumental in bringing about development in the remote parts of Hazara.
The naib nazim of Mansehra district, teachers and students were also in attendance on the occasion.
