ISLAMABAD:

An Indian woman whose husband died years ago will be granted Pakistani citizenship, the interior ministry has confirmed.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar issued orders on Tuesday to award nationality to the widow of a Pakistani national according to the legal procedures, after taking notice of a letter from her.

Man seeks Pakistani nationality for Indian wife

A ministry spokesperson said her application for getting the Pakistani citizenship had been pending with the ministry since 2008.

The woman got married with a Pakistani citizen years ago. The man later died and his stepsons allegedly deprived the woman of her share in the property left behind by her husband. She applied for nationality in 2008.

The widow had appealed to the interior minister for help after being deprived of her share of property and against the alleged injustices meted out to her by her stepsons.
