Nisar orders granting Pakistani citizenship to Indian woman

The woman's plea is pending since 2008; she's deprived of her share of property following her husband's death

ISLAMABAD: The country's top security czar directed on Tuesday the authorities concerned to grant Pakistani nationality to a woman of Indian origin who got married to a Pakistani man.

Her application had been in pending with the interior ministry since 2008.

According to the woman, her stepsons had also deprived her of share of the property acquired by her late husband.

Besides directing to grant nationality as per "the rules and regulations," Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar also ordered action against those involved in depriving the woman from her property.

In a similar case that had surfaced in December last year, a Pakistani man who married an Indian girl requested the interior ministry to grant citizenship to her wife.

According to Ijaz Khan, he had been seeking the nationality to be able to bring her wife of Indian origin to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, his hometown.
