KARACHI:

Pakistan hockey team coach Abdul Hanif Khan has placed confidence in the 50 players, shortlisted out of 131, by the national selection committee for the second phase of the preparatory camp (March 5-25) behind held ahead of the 25th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

The probable include five goalkeepers, 10 full-backs, 12 halves and 23 forwards. “We were initially supposed to select 40 players but found more talent and had to add 10 more for the second phase,” Hanif told The Express Tribune.

“These 50 players are full of potential; half of them have played international matches while the others are fresh. We are trying to give exposure to as many players as possible ahead of the next World Cup qualifiers.”

The 25th edition of the Malaysian event will be held from April 6-16, featuring defending champions New Zealand, last year’s runners-up and current world champions Australia, hosts Malaysia, India, Canada, and Japan.
