MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor has filed an official legal complaint against her estranged husband Sunjay Kapur and mother-in-law Rani Kapur, on the grounds of mental harassment. The troubled couple wed back in 2003 and filed for divorce in 2014, after mutual consent following years of relationship issues and a separation since 2010. They have two children, son Kiaan Raj Kapur and daughter Samiera Kapur, together.

As per Karisma’s lawyer, the case is of harassment and completely different from her impending divorce case. The aim is to protect the children and reach a settlement regarding them. “It’s not a dowry case. It’s a case of harassment and this is completely different from the on-going divorce case,” lawyer Kranti Sathe told IANS. “This doesn’t even come under family court — it’s in the magistrate court. Karisma is not claiming anything for herself,” added Sathe.

Reports from earlier this year showed that the divorce petition filed by Sunjay — a wealthy industrialist — claimed Karisma had married him for his money. On a court hearing held on February 2, the 41-year-old actor’s lawyers sought time to respond to the allegation and are said to be filing the reply on March 3. The lawyer also opposed Sunjay’s application for the interim custody of the children.

Popularly referred to as Lolo in the Indian film industry, Karisma was last seen in 2013’s critically acclaimed film, Bombay Talkies — a multi-starrer directed by Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar collectively.
