Star Wars: The Force Awakens director Jeffrey Jacob Abrams has revealed that a gay character might be added to the Star Wars world.

JJ Abrams always wants his movies to "look the way the world looks", so he thinks it's possible that the sci-fi film franchise will feature a homosexual character in the new instalments, reports aceshowbiz.com.

"When I talk about inclusivity, it's not excluding gay characters, it's about inclusivity, so of course," he said at the US-Ireland Alliance Oscar Wilde Awards in Santa Monica, California on Thursday.

"To me, the fun of Star Wars is exploring the possibilities, so it seems insanely narrow-minded to say that there wouldn't be a homosexual character in that world," he added.
