PESHAWAR: A young teenager committed suicide inside his school in Peshawar, using the guard’s weapon

The 13-year-old, who was a student of a private school in Gulbela, went into the guard room on Saturday, took the employee’s gun and shot himself, said Daudzai DSP Sahibzada Sajjad. “He was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

Sajjad and another Daudzai police official both said initial investigation revealed the young boy’s motive was a broken heart.

After talking to people at Sarhad Grammar School where the victim studied in grade seven, Sajjad said the boy took his life after his class fellow stopped talking to him.

The other policeman said he was in love with his class fellow and had asked to marry her. Her parents rejected the proposal on the grounds that she was too young, he said. “She stopped talking to him after her family turned him down. This left him so distraught that he took such an extreme step to kill himself.”

A roznamcha report was registered on the complaint of the boy’s father Haji Jan Muhammad.

“[Jan Muhammad] told us he was in Tangi, Charsadda when he was informed his son had committed suicide,” said a police officer. “When Jan reached LRH, he found his son had already died.”

The official said the boy had used the gatekeeper’s AK-47—left unattended in his room—to end his life.

“There is no FIR as we are investigating the matter to determine whether it was a suicide or murder.”
