Money Laundering Case: MQM confident funds will be returned
Earlier this month, London police cancelled the bail of Altaf Hussain and five other men
KARACHI:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has stressed that ‘party funds’ in the possession of the London police are entirely legitimate. According to a press statement, representatives of the MQM attended the West London Magistrates Court on Friday as part of the ongoing civil claim by the Metropolitan Police service regarding party funds currently in their possession. Party convener Nadeem Nusrat said in a statement that he was confident that the money will be returned to the MQM. Earlier this month, London police cancelled the bail of Altaf Hussain and five other men. They are no longer required to come to the police station, however, investigations are ongoing. Money laundering investigations started in December 2012, when a party office was raided and a case seized. In June 2013, Altaf’s house and office were raided. He is being investigated for money laundering of at least 400,000 pounds.
