‘Illegal Tajik immigrants should be deported soon’

Ambassador highlights obstructions in completion of projects.

ISLAMABAD:
The thousands of illegal immigrants from Tajikistan who are registered in madrassas in Fata and Sindh should be deported soon, said the Ambassador of Tajikistan Zubaydullo N Zubaydov while addressing a press conference at the Tajikistan Embassy here on Monday.

Meanwhile, several hurdles obstruct the completion of Power Central Asia South Asia-1000 (Casa-1000) power transmission project and the Ishkashim – Chitral road connecting Tajikistan and Pakistan, said the ambassador.

Casa-1000 is a $650 million joint venture between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan that will provide 1000MW of power to Afghanistan and Pakistan, he informed, adding that the neighbouring countries continue to obstruct the completion of the project through their blockade of all roads and railway transit to the landlocked country.

Under the project, the price of electricity will be five cents per unit, much lower than the prevailing price in Pakistan, Zubaydov said. Meanwhile, a Canadian company is working on the feasibility of the project and awaiting World Bank’s approval for it. An official visit by President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan is expected in the next few months.
