Convocation: Youth urged to be mindful of change

Graduates need to be bold and innovative to excel in the rapidly changing world.

KARACHI:
The balance of power is rapidly shifting from the west to the east and with these changes, the graduates of Pakistan can benefit from emerging powers like China and India through excellence in modern disciples, said Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Nadeemul Haq.

He was speaking at the seventh convocation of Iqra University at its main campus on Monday.

“During the last four years, this world has changed drastically. We have seen the global financial crisis and its repercussions that changed the perceptions of life around the world. This is why I say be mindful of the change occurring around you in modern world,” said Haq.

“To put it simply I would say that you graduates need to be enterprising, bold and innovative to excel in this rapidly changing world,” he told the graduates.

To fight the evils like corruption the students need to stress upon integrity and follow ethics, he added. “You people can best serve your country when you become best globally. Go anywhere around the world, learn and come back to your country. Because the challenges that Pakistan faces today can only be resolved when you people serve your country,” he advised.

Iqra University conferred eight gold medals and 250 degrees on successful graduates in various fields like business administration, computer science, telecommunications, education, engineering, textile and fashion design.

Iqra University’s Chancellor Hunaid Lakhani said the graduates should not think of instant success but they should keep trying for success. He shared a quote, which says “life is one per cent inspiration and 99 per cent perspiration.”

“I am convinced that I have achieved my personal successes because I have always loved what I do, you must also find what you love to do,” he said.

Confucius once said, “find a job that you love and you will never work a day in your life,” he said, adding “this is the life I want for you, a life where you go to work each day and do what you love.”
