KARACHI:
District Malir SSP Rao Anwar shared on Wednesday more details on the 12 militants who were gunned down in a shootout on Monday evening.

The government had announced more than Rs10 million as head money on those alleged militants, he said, during a press conference. The suspects, belonging to alQaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), were killed in the shootout led by SSP Anwar in Pipri and Gadap area.

The intelligence-driven raid was conducted on the basis of information provided by top militants already in custody, such as LeJ Karachi chief Naeem Bukhari, LeJ Karachi deputy chief Sabir Khan alias Munna, AQIS Afghanistan leader's deputy Farooq Bhatti alias Musanna, whose arrests were declared by Inter-Services Public Relations director-general Lt Gen Asim Bajwa at a press conference in Karachi on February 12.

The 12 alleged militants killed on Monday have been identified as Talha Shafiq alias Zarar, Khalilullah alias Green, Sohail alias Chamato, Abdul Salam, Abdul Wahab, Khawaja Zahid Hussain, Waqas alias Mufti, Ismail, Tahir Hussain, Haleemullah, Munawar and Bilal. According to SSP Anwar, these terrorists used to go to Afghanistan where officials of the Indian spy agency, RAW, allegedly used to provide them militancy training. "We have no idea about the actual number of militants but definitely there are a large number of militants still in the city and we are trying to trace them," he said.

Missing reporter

One of the alleged militants, Khawaja Zahid, used to work as a reporter for Urdu daily newspaper Jasarat until 2005. After leaving journalism, Zahid took the public service commission exam and passed it.

According to Khawaja's family, he had been missing for more than a year. "About a couple of months ago, some law enforcers came to his house and left with his laptop," claimed a family member, who accused the law enforcers of killing Khawaja in a fake encounter.

Daesh not found

"So far, there is no existence of Daesh in Pakistan. Not even a Daesh leader has been found in Pakistan," insisted SSP Anwar. "All these terrorist organisations, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and LeJ, are working for spy agencies of other countries and are trying to destabilise the country."
