Trend report: The silk shirt

This season there is no excuse not to tap into trend of cut silk shirts to flatter every figure, every occasion.

The new season is fast approaching and with it brings the inevitable array of “must-have” trends which leap out at us from the pages of every glossy magazine and jostle with one another for a place in our hearts and in our wardrobes.

Whether its neon shades or statement heels, there certainly seems to be an abundance of “look at me” styles around at the moment, each guaranteed to make you stand out from the crowd this spring. But despite the myriad of bold colours and outlandish prints that graced the runways for Spring/Summer 2011, those who favour a more minimalist look need not despair as this season’s must-have garment is undeniably one of the most understated around: the silk shirt.

A glance at the “best dressed” pages of any worthwhile fashion publication to know that style setters everywhere are embracing the classic charms of this highly versatile garment. Whatever your budget, body type, or personal style, a well-fitting silk shirt is an absolute wardrobe essential.

This season there is no excuse not to tap into the trend as designers and high-street stores alike have put their tailoring skills to the test to bring us beautifully cut silk shirts to flatter every figure and suit every occasion.

Vanessa Bruno

Nothing exudes effortless chic like a silk shirt, so it stands to reason that Parisian Queen of cool, Vanessa Bruno, should be one of the pioneers of the trend.

The hotter-than-hot French designer’s collection demonstrated the most relaxed way to work the look. Bruno’s silk shirts sashayed down the runway in soft shades of sky blue, delicate yellow and a variety of eye-catching prints, each one collar-less and loose-fitting and deliciously casual.

Some were worn free-flowing and paired with micro shorts, others neatly tucked in to pastel hued cigarette pants. But all of Bruno’s silk shirts exude low-key luxe and are a sure fire way to fail safe summer-ready style.

Mango

To work the silk shirt trend but remain on a budget, look no further than Spanish brand, Mango. Every fashionista’s high-street favourite has really outdone itself this season by bringing us a veritable feast of silken styles.

Ultra elegant white and cream numbers sit alongside eye-popping brights and prints galore. Whether you want something chic to wear to work, or an attention grabbing number to dress up with heels and one of this seasons must-have embellished mini’s, Mango’s silk shirt selection is sure to suffice.

Celine

When it comes to inimitable style and faultless quality, no one does it better than luxury label extraordinaire, Celine.

The silk shirt is an undeniably luxurious garment so it stands to reason that Celine would produce some of the finest around.

In fresh whites and soft honey-suckle hues, Celine’s silk shirts are both on-trend and timeless making them this season’s ultimate investment piece.
