Farewell call: General Campbell, Raheel discuss Afghan peace

The outgoing commander of Operation Resolute Support and American troops in Afghanistan, General John F Campbell, paid a farewell call on army chief General Raheel Sharif at the General Headquarters on Thursday.


According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders reviewed the ongoing reconciliation process in Afghanistan and discussed the way forward.

Gen Campbell paid rich tributes to the professionalism and phenomenal achievements of Pakistan Army in Operation Zarb-e-Azb, ISPR said. He also acknowledged Pakistan Army efforts towards regional stability.


Gen Raheel thanked Campbell in particular for his efforts to bring about stability in Afghanistan.

“To pay tributes to the shuhada (martyrs) of Pakistani security forces, Gen John F Campbell also laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada,” the military’s media wing said.

Army chief visits 10 Corps HQ

Gen Raheel also visited the headquarters of the army’s 10 Corps in Chaklala on Thursday and received a detailed operation and security briefing.

He expressed complete satisfaction over the operational preparedness of the corps. He also laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada, offered Fateha and paid rich tributes to the supreme sacrifices of the officers and men of Pakistan Army deployed along the Line of Control.
