Violent father: Teacher, two students injured by parent
Attacker shot, thrashed teacher after his son was scolded for not doing his homework
RAWALPINDI:
At least two schoolchildren and a teacher were shot and injured in Gujar Khan on Thursday by another student’s father.
Eyewitnesses said Intizar Hussain and his accomplices forced their way into Government Boys High School Darkali Syedan in the Jatli area of Gujjar Khan and attacked and thrashed school teacher Naeem Kazmi, who had scolded Hussain’s son Waqas, a ninth grader who had not done his homework.
An eyewitness said he saw Kazmi attempting to flee from the attackers, who caught up with him near a staffroom and started thrashing him. According to an eyewitness teachers and students intervened to save the teacher, upon which the attackers resorted to firing at the group, which injured 10th graders Zaryab Hussain and Saddam.
The incident created panic in the school and worried parents and area residents rushed to the school fearing a terrorist attack. A heavy contingent of police reached the school a little while later, but the attackers had already fled.
According to a student from Waqas’s class, the incident began with Hussain starting a verbal altercation with Kazmi after his son complained about the earlier scolding. During the unprintable exchange, Kazmi allegedly directed some foul language back at Hussain, which led to the chase, the eyewitness said.
The injured were rushed to a hospital where they were stated to be in stable condition.
Eyewitnesses said there is no real security at the school, which even has a broken boundary wall.
Sub-Inspector Karamat Ali, who is investigating the case, said that the attacker had used a 12-bore pistol. The police officer said that they have registered case on the complaint of the teacher and started investigation. He said that the police have arrested two accomplices, identified as Babar and Waqalat, but Hussain is still at large.
