FAISALABAD: A man killed his infant child after quarrelling with his wife in a Tandlianwala Saddar police precinct on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said that Shahid Naseer, a resident of Chak 449-GB, had married Laraib Bibi a while back. Their child Mustaqeem Shahid was born two months ago.

Police said according to the statement recorded by Laraib Bibi, Naseer had asked for her sister’s hand in marriage for his brother. She said that she had opposed the match and the two would often argue about it.

On Wednesday, they had a heated argument after which Naseer picked up an axe and killed the child. Laraib Bibi filed a complaint against Naseer with the Tandlianwala Saddar police.

Shahmeer Khan, one of their neighbours, told The Express Tribune that Naseer had accused his wife of having an affair with someone else. “That’s what they used to argue about all the time,” he said. Khan said that Naseer had said that Mustaqeem was not his son. “He would call the child a bastard and Laraib Bibi and Naseer would argue about that all the time.”

On Wednesday, they argued about this again, Khan said. “Laraib Bibi used harsh words with him after which Naseer killed his son.” Khan said that he had heard that before Naseer killed son, Laraib Bibi had asked for forgiveness but he had not paid heed and had swung the axe at his son.
