Verdict reserved : Coal-fired power plants challenged

The counsel for the petitioner said the government was constructing these power plants near residential areas

LAHORE:
Justice Shahid Waheed of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday reserved verdict on the maintainability of a petition challenging the construction of coal-fired power projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).  The counsel for the petitioner Advocate Syed Feroze Shah Gillani said there was no justification for executing the initiatives as the medium had been deemed redundant the world over and was considered pernicious for humans. He said the government was constructing these power plants near residential areas. Gillani said this would wreak havoc on crops, animals and residents.  He said such power plants could not be situated in residential areas.
