Bomb threat reports at KU are fake, says spokesperson
Media had earlier reported that a bomb had been placed at IJT's book fair on campus
KARACHI:
Karachi University (KU) denied on Wednesday rumours that the campus was evacuated following reports of a bomb threat.
"Reports that a bomb has been planted on campus are fake," a university spokesperson told The Express Tribune.
"Students have not been evacuated and classes and lab [sessions] are being held as per schedule."
Earlier, sections of the media had reported that a bomb had been placed at Islami Jamiat Talaba's (IJT) book fair being held at the campus.
Last month, KU was forced to postpone its convocation for want of adequate security arrangements for the event. The decision was taken following a meeting where security conditions at the campus were discussed following the attack on Bacha Khan University, Charsadda.
‘Just a rumour’
"It was just a rumour to sabotage the book fair and spread panic among the students," said IJT nazim Hamza Muhammad Siddiqui. He also said that some people try to take advantage of the situation that educational institutions such as KU are on security threat and try to use tactics to spread fear among students and parents. "As there is security concern in the varsity, some Rangers officials came on routine check at the book fair but [there was] nothing [like a] bomb squad," Siddiqui explained.
