The Sindh High Court (SHC) disposed of former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim's petition against harassment by the provincial authorities and attempts to implicate him in connection with the release of political prisoners on parole.
The former chief minister had approached the court against the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government over alleged harassment and attempts to implicate him in false cases regarding release of political prisoners on parole.
Advocate Rafiq Ahmed Kalwar argued that the action and intentions of the government were mala fide and for the sole purpose of victimising the petitioner on political grounds.
Therefore, he pleaded the court to restrain the authorities concerned for lodging any case against the petitioner. A request was also made to restrain the police from harassing Rahim.
On the last hearing, the court had directed the provincial authorities to act strictly in accordance with the law.
Filing comments in response to the court's notice, a provincial law officer refuted allegations of harassment. Neither is any inquiry being carried out as apprehended by the petitioner, he assured.
In view of the law officer's comments, the petitioner's lawyer expressed his satisfaction and did not further pursue the matter.
