On hold: Replies sought over naib subedar’s promotion
The Peshawar High Court has sought replies from the additional chief secretary (ACS) for Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the political agent of Khyber Agency for withdrawing the promotion orders of a naib subedar of the khasadar force.
A division bench comprising Justice Syed Afsar Shah and Justice Ghazanfar Ali was informed naib subedar Khan Zeb was promoted by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor after he had recovered a large amount of heroin and hashish from a truck in 2015.
The counsel for Zeb, Rehmanullah, told the bench the governor also awarded Zeb Rs1 million in cash. However, Rehmanullah added, his client’s promotion orders were withdrawn soon after by the political administration. Zeb called this a decision against the law.
“If the government starts withdrawing promotions ordered for bravery, the force will be demoralised,” said Justice Shah.
