Contempt of court: Chief secretary issued notice
The chief justice directed Gondal to submit a reply by March 11
LAHORE:
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijazul Ahsan issued a notice on Monday to Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal on a plea seeking contempt proceedings against him for not deciding an application demanding a ban on plying of two-stroke motorcycle rickshaws in line with Lahore Clean Air Commission’s recommendations.
Shahid Mahmood said the court had directed Gondal to decide his application within a month. He said several months had passed and the matter was yet to be decided.
He had pleaded that uncontrolled plying of motorcycle rickshaws in Lahore was damaging the environment. He said mostly underage and untrained drivers having no licences rode rickshaws that sometimes caused accidents. The petitioner requested the court to take action against the chief secretary for not complying with the court order. The chief justice directed Gondal to submit a reply by March 11.
