Facilitating commuters: Send a text to get traffic updates on the go
Alert system launched in K-P
PESHAWAR:
Traffic police in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa launched an alert system to help commuters avoid getting stuck on the roads. This was shared by the Traffic SSP at a press conference on Monday at Traffic Police Headquarters in the city.
An SMS-based information service, the alerts will tell people about the latest traffic updates, including traffic jams and alternative routes.
Drivers can send “PT” to 8333 following which they would receive the latest traffic updates on their mobile phones. The system will be free.
Eyes in the sky
Tracking devices will be installed in the vehicles under the use of traffic wardens for better monitoring.
Speaking to journalists, Traffic SSP Sadiq Hussain Baloch said, “Initially, these devices will be installed in 56 vehicles for effective monitoring and fuel saving.”
He added the number of rapid response personnel has been increased which will help traffic cops in punishing traffic violators, especially the elite and VIPs of Peshawar. “This system has been introduced to check traffic violations by influential people who used to escape the law by using their contacts.”
He added they inspected 71 plazas in the city and none were using their basements for vehicle parking as required under the original design. Instead, Baloch said, “They are using the parking space for marriage halls and warehouses.”
Baloch said strict action will be taken against the administrations of these buildings.
