CM interviews four candidates for VC

The appointments are likely to be made in a week

LAHORE:
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday interviewed 11 candidates for appointment as vice chancellors at four universities – the Punjab University (PU), the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), the University of Sargodha (UOS) and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology (MNS-UET), Multan.

The appointments are likely to be made in a week, said a Higher Education Department (HED) official who did not want to be named.

“The chief minister will forward the names of candidates picked by him to the governor (the chancellor) on Monday or Tuesday,” he said.

Those interviewed for the PU included Mujahid Kamran, the incumbent, Zakaria Zakar and Zafar Mueen Nasir. Zakar is the PU Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences dean. Nasir is chair of the Management Department, American University in the Emirates. He was interviewed on Skype.


Nasir was also interviewed for the University of Sargodha. Tahir Kamran and Ishtiaq Ahmad were the other candidates for the top UoS office.

Shahida Hasnain, Uzma Quraishi and Rukhsana Kausar were interviewed for the LCWU. Muhammad Zubair, Shahid Munir and Aamir Ijaz were interviewed for the MNS-UET.

Other panellists were Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Dr Nizamuddin, Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, HED Secretary Irfan Ali and Umar Saif, the official said.
