Manufacturing: Railways finalises PC-1 for 250 coaches
The PC-1 has been forwarded to the Planning Commission for approval
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Railway has finalised the PC-I for procurement of 250 coaches out of which 186 will be manufactured in Carriage Factory Islamabad (CFI). The PC-1 has been forwarded to the Planning Commission for approval. A tender to procure 800 high capacity hopper wagons would soon be floated, out of which 595 wagons will be manufactured at CFI. He said that Pakistan Railways’ annual production capacity of CFI is 120 coaches and during the last two years, it has produced, rehabilitated and repaired 225 passenger coaches in the factory, of which 132 were churned out in 2013-14 and 93 in 2014-15, compared to 24 in 2011-12 and 40 in 2012-13. He added Railways has made a paradigm shift in policy for the procurement of rolling stock by discouraging imports of Completely Built Units (CBU) in favour of indigenous manufacturing.
